Rianna Walcott Band
Rianna Walcott Band
Jazz. Neo-Soul. Originals
About Us
The soulful Rianna Walcott sings with a style reminiscent of influences as diverse as Sarah Vaughan to Erykah Badu. Having performed in various combinations between Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Los Angeles over the last eight years, her band distills the best elements of a journey into jazz that began for her aged 8. Playing a combination of Jazz, Blues, Swing, Neo-Soul, R&B and originals, the Rianna Walcott band is a product of a collaboration between Rianna and song-writing guitarist Dan Abrahams that began when Rianna was a first year at Edinburgh University. With the addition of dynamic keys player Louis Resnick a few years later, the Rianna Walcott Band was born.
About the band.Rianna is a PhD candidate in London, and a Black feminist scholar. She recently co-edited an anthology, The Colour of Madness, and in the time left over she moonlights as a professional jazz singer. Her work can be found at riannawalcott.com and she tweets at @rianna_walcott.
Louis was born in Nottingham, stays in Glasgow and lives for Oscar Peterson. He divides his time between working as a doctor and going on holiday. Occasionally he plays the piano. Sheffield born Dan is a hydraulics engineer by day, guitarist and double bassist by night, playing and composing in the folk and jazz worlds. |
